Massage Treatments

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a technique that focuses on the deep layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on contracted areas, either along or across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

By incorporating friction and trigger response techniques, it can help break up unwanted scar tissue. Specific stretch techniques may be utilised to ensure that joints have a full range of mobility.

Other uses of Sports Massage:

  • Pre-event massage: regular massage can help maintain and/or improve flexibility.
  • Post event massage: used to reduce muscle spasm and metabolic build up that occur with rigorous exercise.
  • Rehabilitation: speed up the healing process of acute or chronic muscle, tendon or ligament problems.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a therapy that helps alleviate stress, tension and relieves muscle soreness that builds up in the body’s tissues either through sport or occupation. By massaging the deep layers of muscle tissues and often incorporating stretching, the therapist can maintain and improve range of motion and flexibility, bringing the client back to optimum feeling and relaxation.

Rehabilitation Exercises

Rehabilitation is the active phase of treatment which introduces and integrates specific, progressive remedial activities through to full functional activity.

Rehabilitation is frequently overlooked by many but we in Gecko Fitness believe that it is essential for full recovery and prevention of further or recurrent injury.

Exercises can target areas of muscle imbalance, core stability and improve body awareness and therefore improve overall performance.
