Pilates Equipment at Gecko Studio – NEW
In Gecko classes Pilates exercises are performed on a mat or with small props like Franklyn balls or resistance bands – there are literally hundreds of beginner to advanced moves available in the Gecko repertoire for a well-rounded workout on the floor. However, there are five major pieces of specialized Pilates equipment: the Reformer, the Trapeze Table (or Cadillac), the Ladder Barrel, the Combo Chair and the Spine Corrector that can add a whole new level of interest and intensity to your Pilates experience. For this reason we have installed a range of all of these pieces of equipment into our studio at Yattendon. They will be available for mat classes (maximum group size of 3) and one 2 one sessions.
Some Pilates equipment offers spring resistance, others offer support and a variety of unique exercises for the total body can be performed on each piece. Again, a purely mat-based routine is an authentic and effective Pilates workout by itself, but if you have the opportunity to explore our NEW Pilates equipment under the guidance and experience of Claire Spizick then we recommend you do so!
More about our Pilates Equipment

A Reformer is perhaps the most renowned and versatile of all Pilates equipment. A reformer glides forward & backward on rollers and uses springs for resistance, along with other attachments, for a wide variety of exercises and positions: lying down, seated and standing. It facilitates hundreds of exercise variations, is no-impact therefore easy on the joints, has modifications for those with injuries and is suitable for a wide variety of clients from rehab to pro athlete.

A Trapeze table is one of the most effective and versatile pieces of exercise equipment ever to be engineered. It features a variety of spring lengths and tensions, as well as multiple spring attachment sites providing different levels of resistance to support or challenge the body. This allows arms and legs to be worked independently ensuring muscle balance in the upper and lower body as well as stability through the core. The trapeze table repertoire of exercises truly challenges the core abdominal muscles, develops spinal flexibility, works the shoulder girdle, strengthens the back and stretches the total body.

A Combo chair puts an emphasis on isometric exercises so it challenges back and abdominal muscles. It also activates the lower back, buttocks, shoulder, transverses abdominals and pelvic region and heightens neuromuscular coordination. It is designed to stretch and strengthen muscle groups not easily reached by more traditional techniques and equipment. From a rehabilitation perspective, it is particularly effective for stretching and rebalancing muscles that have been strained or injured.

On a Ladder barrel a multitude of stretching, strengthening and flexibility exercises can be performed. It helps to isolate deep postural muscles and challenges the body on all planes of movement.

A spine corrector can be used to perform exercises lengthening and strengthening the torso, shoulders, back and legs in a safe, stabilized supported way.
